Home again, home again, jiggity jig

Last night after the wedding we had to drive in some slick winter conditions. I was really hoping that this morning it would warm up and melt all the snow. It definitely didn't, but luckily the interstates were clear and okay to drive on. We got home at 5 our time, got unpacked, started laundry, ate dinner, and now it's time to veg out on the couch. We are looking forward to catching up on some shows and relaxing! These are some pictures of the trees behind Mom's house this morning. Aren't they beautiful?

It was so good to see all our family and friends that we got to see this weekend!! Thanks for making/taking time in your busy schedules to hang with us while we are back. Thanks, Mom, for letting us stay at your house, and for cooking for us! We look forward to seeing as many people as we can while we are back around Christmas.

Congratulations Corey & Amber Sanders

We got to sleep in a little today, which was much needed. Mom made us pancakes, which looked like tortillas they were so thin:) But they were still good! Then we all made some homemade balls to hang on the tree. Craft time.Mom made a yummy casserole with the leftover turkey. Then it was time to get ready for the Sanders wedding. The wedding was at 3 in Ankeny with a reception following at Hickory Hilltop in Ames. The food was from Hickory Park in Ames. Yum-o! It was so good to see everyone.

Andrea is due in 3 weeks. She looks so cute!!

After I got home, I jumped in the shower and then did a deep conditioning treatment on my's a good look for me, don't you think?

What a day!

Mom, Keriann & I started out the day this morning at 3:30 a.m. We left Baxter at 4 and headed for Jordan Creek Mall. Then we went to Valley West, Merle Hay, Hobby Lobby, Kohl's, Target & WalMart. Phew! Thankfully, I am completely done shopping!! I got some yummy CJ's Bagels and snuck it into Lucky Bamboo where mom and Keriann wanted to eat. It was soooo good!

T.J. came down and met us in Ankeny. He and I went to Iowa Diamond to pick out a wedding band. I had to leave my ring there. We can pick it up on Christmas Eve day. It is so wierd not wearing it. I keep thinking I lost my ring!

We came back to Baxter, wrapped presents, had dinner, and then headed up to O'Kelly's. We met Kristy, Ian & Brianna up there early. Then Sara came up -- she looks so cute with her little pregnant belly! Malena came up shortly after and Mindy was there too. It was so fun to see the girs! I haven't laughed that hard for so long;)

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Iowa -- day two

Happy Thanksgiving!!

It's mid-afternoon Thanksgiving day. I just wanted to update my blog since I already have a lot of pictures. Grandpa Rudy and Grandma Doris came down from Mason City today. Matt & Becky came over for a little bit, but then had to go before lunch. They were going to have lunch at her mom's this year. Bev & Keith, Scott's parents, came over for Thanksgiving too. We had so much food and even more dessert. It was delicious!!
I am thankful for:

  • my husband, T.J.
  • my puppies, Herky & Baxter
  • my family
  • my friends
  • jobs -- both mine and T.J.'s
  • my health
  • Starbucks Coffee
  • hot showers
  • my heat pad
  • all the opportunities I have
  • the country I live in
  • ice cream
  • the chiropractor
  • air conditioning
  • chapstick
  • heated seats in cars
  • my Silver jeans
  • DVR

The McCord dinner tonight was at Ben's. We were lucky that the only thing we had that was the same for both lunch and dinner was turkey and pumpkin pie. Now I am pretty tired and heading to bed. I have to get up bright and early to go shopping on Black Friday. We are leaving at 4:00 a.m.

Thanksgiving Eve in Iowa -- day one

We made it safely last night. T.J. and I got to my mom's house around 1:15 a.m. We got to bed around 2:00 a.m., which is 3 eastern. My alarm was set for 7:45 a.m., but we were awake laying in bed around 7. Why, you ask? Well, we slept in the basement, which it is probably safe to say is approximately 50 degrees. Everytime we moved and touched a cold sheet, we woke up. Today we rounded up some extra blankets, so tonight should be a little bit better sleep (I hope).

I got my hair done today. It is dark! I think it will fade a little bit. I do really like it, though. After that, I got an adjustment at the chiropractor -- ahhhh!! I really needed that! Then I scooted across the street to Block, Lamberti & Gocke to say hi to my old co-workers. It was so nice to see everyone again!!
We headed to Altoona to meet up with Brett & Courtney for lunch. We went to Pizza Ranch and had yummy buffet. It was so fun to chat! I could do that all day! Keriann came and met with us. T.J. went to Maxwell to visit his family. Keriann & I went to Beaverdale to visit Walt and Joyce Elder, our Great Uncle & Aunt. We even got to see Connie & A.J. for a few minutes. When they stopped, they were able to take this picture. After a nice visit with Walt & Joyce, we headed back to Baxter. Mom had made a lasagna dinner. I also had some beer cheese soup from Noodle Zoo that T.J. had gotten me earlier in the day. It was delicious! After dinner, T.J., Keriann & I headed over to Dad & Carmen's. It was fun to see them! Russell is Mr. On-The-Go! He wore me out:) We also got to meet Leeanna's boyfriend, Chris.

Day one was very busy. I am looking forward to the rest of the week visiting with family and friends!!

Where do the weekends go?

This was yet another fast weekend! I got a lot of my work done, but I do still have some to finish hopefully before heading west:) We didn't have any big plans this weekend. Saturday was pretty easy-going. Today we tried to do some shopping, but failed miserably. You know when you walk into stores and just kind of wander around but are really not interested at all? That was us today. So instead we came home. We went to see a matinee movie this afternoon -- Twilight. It was soooo good!! I absolutely loved it. After the movie, we hit up some L.J.'s. TJ and I are pretty much regulars there. All the waiters and waitresses know us when we come in:) After dinner we went to Barnes and Noble to check into buying the book Twilight and maybe the other books in the series as well. We ended up buying the box set, which is all four books. I am so excited to read them!!!

Crazy week!

This has been a crazy week for me! I have been scheduled on a job every day this week. My Monday job cancelled, but only after I was already half way there. I have had to "get ready" five days in a row, which I am sooo not used to. I could really use a day where I just roll out of bed, brush my teeth, sit down and start working. It's not coming, though. I am scheduled for a job on Monday. I am so looking forward to a few days off over Thanksgiving. My goal is to be pretty caught up on all my work before heading back to Iowa, which means all work/no play this weekend. I am kissing it good-bye as we speak, so no interesting blogging from me...

T.J. has been getting along very well at his job. He gets along great with all his co-workers and seems to really be enjoying it. I am very proud of him and his positive attitude.

We are both done with our shopping for each other for the Christmas countdown. I am so excited for December 1st!

Do you see what I see???

This is the scene I woke up to this morning. As you can see, there is only snow left on the cars and rooftop. It is already melting away. It looks like the sun is finally going to show its face after a long hiatus. How appropriate for a little sprinkling of snow the day after we put up the tree?? If T.J. doesn't wake up soon, he is going to miss it:)

Today we don't have too much planned. T.J. and I are going to run downtown to the mall b/c they have a Gap and I have a friends and family coupon I would like to use. I have some work to do. And we are both going to finish up a little Christmas shopping.

We are doing an advent of gifts between T.J. and I this year. So each day we get to open one gift. The goal is to give stocking stuffer-type gifts, but that can get kind of hard so some are a little nicer than our "rules" state. It should be fun. We are pretty excited because this is our fifth Christmas being married. And in those five years, we haven't bought any kind of gifts for each other. It was just too expensive with all the other gifts we had to purchase. I can't wait to see what December 1, which will be gifts labeled "25", will bring:)

Our Saturday in a Nutshell:

The rundown:

  • clean the house top to bottom
  • trim the tree and get out other Christmas decorations
  • go see Role Models
  • get some Starbucks, stop at Old Navy & DSW
  • try Hungary Howie's Pizza (home of the flavored crust...recommended to T.J. by a co-worker)
  • get UFC PPV 91 (T.J. thoroughly enjoyed watching it...I worked and looked online the whole time:)

Date night!!

Tonight T.J. asked me out on a date to Old Spaghetti Factory. It was so nice to get a little dressed up for a change and go out on the town. I had some yummy chicken penne and he had the meat lovers pasta dish. We had a couple drinks and just chatted. It was awesome.

This is by far the best part of our night, though: We parked in the parking garage under Circle Center Mall. After we pull up to the ticket booth, the lady takes the ticket and says, "It will be $1.50." I start digging in my purse for the money. She then says, "Are you guys married?" We both were like, "Yes." Then she says, "I can tell. You just look so in love. You guys look so happy and like you are well-to-do and like you just really love each other."

Being kind of caught off guard in the parking garage, we thanked her and headed towards home. All the way home we talked about how nice she was. She didn't have to say anything to us and yet she literally made our night. This past week we have been bickering a lot, I think b/c of the change in our schedules with T.J. getting his job and everything. For her to say that we look "so in love" felt good to hear. Most times we don't feel like we are "well-to-do" in any sense whatsoever.

But this was just a reminder that we have more than enough in our lives. We have more than enough money, more than enough love, more than enough happiness, more than enough...everything. We are so thankful for all that we do have. It is just a little reminder to us not to dwell on what we don't have.

This morning we woke up to gray skies and whistling wind. This evening it has been kind of sprinkling on and off. I just hope they stay sprinkles and don't turn to fluries! Today has been mostly just a work day for me. I only stopped to run a couple of errands and get a yummy Steak & Shake vanilla milk shake! I took a big job on Friday that they attorney wants by early next week, so my weekend is pretty lame. Here are some of the great views I had at the job on Friday.

Thursday I went to a Premier Designs Jewelry party at Michelle's (she is also a court reporter). It was a lot of fun to see some people I work with and also meet some of her family. I bought one necklace. I can't wait to get it and wear it!

Tonight is Corey Sanders and Amber Juffer's bachelor/bachelorette parties. We are sad to miss them, but are really looking forward to their wedding at the end of this month! Also today I missed a baby shower for Andrea Lawrence and a wedding shower for Amber...what a busy day, huh?!?! I hope everyone had fun today!

Let's Go Pacers!

Tonight we headed to Conseco Fieldhouse to watch the Pacers take on the Suns. Our friends Brett & Regina got the hookup with four good tickets. We were only 18 rows from the floor!! The Pacers did really good, but ended up losing 113-103. We took some pictures of Shaq. He is the big guy wearing purple. He is soo tall!!

Today is election day '08. Obama/Biden v. McCain/Palin. I got up early to get to the polls and vote. There have been terrible lines around here for early voting, but luckily the wait was just about 40 minutes today. The picture shows off my peace sign and my "I voted" sticker! After I got home, I decided to have lunch for breakfast...buffalo chicken pizza. Then I thought I would make some banana bread. Now I really need to get busy doing some work! Here is a picture of me with the doggies:)

Day one down...

Well, TJ's first day went off without a hitch! He mostly went over paperwork and policies today. Tomorrow he starts getting trained on his actual job. I had a job this evening, so when I got home we went and grabbed on "celebratory" ice cream to celebrate his first day! I got along all right without him even though it is just so quiet here all day by myself. I had the TV on a lot today, but I don't think I will do that too much. I found myself watching more of Regis & Kelly or Young & the Restless than working!

It has been beautiful here the last few days. It is uncharacteristically warm. It was 74 degrees and sunny here. I am not complaining at all! I am hoping for a light, easy-going winter. Not the kind of winter we had last year in Iowa. Maybe tomorrow we can go for a stroll at the park to enjoy it a little bit!!

Lonesome me!

Well, it's almost 10:00 a.m. and I am already feeling lonely without TJ here! After he got up and off to work, I went and worked out. While on the eliptical machine, I was thinking about how different it is going to be. I realized that I have never worked as a court reporter without having TJ working at home. The whole time we lived in OP, KS, he worked at home. We have been here since May, and he has been here at home with me the whole time. I am sure it will just take some getting used to. I have the TV on and keep talking to the dogs. They are really wondering what's going on as well. I just hope TJ likes his new job! It sounds like a great company to work for.

Lunch and a matinee

Today started off a little later than I had planned! After going out last night, I definitely needed some extra sleep. Lucky for me, the time change was last night! Instead of dinner and a movie, we decided on lunch and a matinee. We had lunch at our favorite Mexican cuisine, El Jaripeo. Then we went and watched Zach and Miri Make a Porno. It was pretty funny!

We just relaxed the rest of the day. We are getting ready for TJ's first day of work tomorrow. There was a lot of paperwork that had to be filled out tonight for TJ to take in tomorrow. Good luck at your new job, T!!

Happy Halloweeeeen!

Today has been a very productive day. TJ cleaned the house. He also helped me with the laundry. Today I also made a few dinners and froze them for the busy weeks ahead. Tonight I went out with Nancy, Regina & Natasha for Halloween. Not too many people were dressed up. We hung out at O'Reilly's most of the night. We drove up to Broad Ripple and were going to check out some bars up there. After we got denied getting in (b/c Natasha's ID was expired and I only had one form of ID. You have to have two to get in there), we decided to head back down to O'Reilly's. I went as Harry. Regina was a devil and Nancy was Wednesday. Natasha didn't dress up. She was kind of late getting there because her and her sister Olivia got permanent eyeliner done. I had a really good time hanging out with the girls!
