50% Payless Coupon

I was just reading Skip to my Lou and they linked to Oprah, where you can get a 50% off coupon for Payless Shoes. I just wanted to pass it on because who doesn't like 50% off already cheap shoes?

I am working on my job from today and then I am going to go costume shopping for this weekend! I hope I can find something great!!

Holy Smokes, Spidey

Here is your warning: Be prepared to be grossed out!!!!
This is seriously the biggest spider I have seen in the wild. Meaning, in my back yard attached to my house and my chair.
My stomach hurts just looking at this picture. I get the heeby geebies just thinking about it. It was so big! I don't get grossed out very easy. I will kill bugs by myself, no problem. But this monster I left for T.J.
So you might be wondering...did he kill it? Well, I think he was a little freaked too. He hit it with his shoe, but then I think he flicked it into the grass. I hope it died on impact with the shoe. But if not, it's still out there, in my back yard, ready to spin another gigantic web, ready to eat more beetle bugs.

A recap of T.J.'s Birthday Weekend

Here is a video from dinner Friday night at our favorite Mexican restaurant, El J's. We have been going there at least once a week since we moved here in May of '08. They all recognize us when we go in and a few of the waiters even know what we order. When we got there, I told Pepe, our favorite waiter, that it was T.J.'s 30th birthday. He was surprised he was that old:) After dinner, they sang to T.J. and he got a complimentary shot of tequila -- cha cha cha!!

Saturday we got some work done in our guest room. We got a new desk and side table to go by the daybed. Some day I will post some pictures...maybe once we get T.J.'s sports stuff to hang on the walls. I think it will look so much better once we get that stuff here!

Saturday night we ate with Keith & Natasha at Fogo de Chao, which is a Brazilian steakhouse. Their house speciality meat is sooo good! I ate a months worth of steak in one night. When you go there, everyone pays $40 for dinner, which includes a salad bar, rolls, side dishes, and unlimited meat. When you want meat, you flip a little card over from red to green and the waiters who are dressed in cute outfits run over and offer you some meat. They carve it off their barbecuing sticks. You have tongs and you have to grab the meat and put it on your plate.

I also had a caipirinha, which is a traditional Brazilian drink. After dinner we also got dessert, which we never do, but this was a special occasion and all. The waiter suggested the papaya cream. It is supposed to help you digest meat:)

After dinner we went over to O'Reillys to watch the Iowa game, which was a heart stopping game. Nothing like a touchdown with 2 seconds left. Phew!

After that we went to Champps to watch the UFC fights. This is where I got pretty tired. I get so bored watching the fights, so I talked to Natasha most of the time or messed with my iPhone:) We went back to O'Reillys for a little bit and then headed home.

On Sunday we went back to O'Reillys to watch the Colts play. After getting home, we crashed on the couch for some R&R. We finished Transformers (I'm not a fan) and watched Desperate Housewives. I hope this next week and weekend will be a little bit more relaxing!

Happy 30th Birthday, T.J.!!!!!!!

Today my sweetie-bo-beetie, T.J., turns 30. It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating his 18th birthday with a surprise party at my childhood home after a football game. A lot has happened since then! I am so glad that I have someone so special to spend all my time with!
Even though I had big plans to go all out for the 30th birthday, it, of course, came to the last minute last night. I needed a card and a cake. Wal-Mart had this delicious frosted cookie and it was screaming his name. LOL! Okay. Maybe not. The flowers and everything are a little girly, but it was the most boy colors of all the cookies.
The big 3-0. I had to sing to T.J. all by myself. I was hoping the dogs would help me, but they just seemed confused by what was going on. Below are T.J.'s gifts. Do you see a theme?

Love you, T.J.! I hope you have a great birthday and a great 30th year!!

Rasterbater & Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

I can't help but giggle a little every time I say that name -- rasterbater:) hehe. Grow up, Kaylan! Anyway, I discovered Rasterbater from Ashley's blog, Lil Boo Blue today. I was messing around with this today and tried it on a picture of the dogs. You can see it below.

From far away you can see the picture.

As it gets closer, you can see what the picture is really made of.

Also, I won a blog giveaway!!!! Yeeeeeeeeehaaaawwwwww! I am so excited. Ashley, who I mentioned above, is amazing. She makes/designs so many awesome things, one of which is clothing patterns. This is a pattern she designed using old t-shirts. I am a little nervous to sew with t-shirt fabric and to sew clothes, but I hope it goes okay:)

This week I should have accomplished a lot, but didn't. I haven't been busy with work and just have been relaxing when I should be stuffing sock monkeys! I swear I am going to get busy on them...maybe this weekend. I also need to hunt down some cute t-shirts now so I can try to make a hoodie!

Today is T.J.'s last day being a twenty-something. Tomorrow is his 30th birthday. I am feeling inadequate in the birthday planning department. For some reason, this is not my strong suit. We don't have anything too big planned, but I hope he will have a great birthday weekend!

Also, our good friends, Roger and Abby, who are adopting sweet Ari from Ethiopia, have a court date set for Tuesday. Please say a prayer for them. If they pass court the first time on Tuesday, they will have Baby Ari home before Christmas. I can't think of a better Christmas present, can you?

Back to the Grind

Mike & Julie hit the highway back to Iowa today and so things are getting back to normal here. I was supposed to have a job this afternoon, but it canceled. I already have a full day planned, so it works out.

After I post this, I am going to go for my first run in three weeks. The doctor told me to take it easy so that my stomach could heal from the ulcer. I should have probably started back last week, but I gave myself an extra week just in case. I am just going to jump right back into my schedule b/c I don't have time to ease my way back into it. I am going to take it easy and go slow so I don't overdo it. My week of running? 3, 6, 3, 12. Gasp! I am going to have to take it super slow for that 12 miler:)

I have a few errands to run: library, post office, bank. Then this afternoon, I am going to Bloomington with Keith & Natasha. Today is Natasha's birthday -- Happy Birthday, Natasha!!! We have a few things planned, which include: going to pet puppies, going to Haley's Boutique, going to an awesome shoe store, and going out to dinner. I have been wanting to get down to Haley's Boutique, which is Natasha's sister (Lydia) and her husband's (Brent) clothing store, for some time now and am so glad it finally worked out!

Yesterday morning we headed to Indiana Live casino to try out luck. The casino is really nice and it let us play a little bit. Here we are at our favorite slots:)
Last night Julie & I made these boxes. Aren't they cute? The template is here. These were super easy to make and really cute! They would make great May Day baskets too!

Is it Saturday or Sunday?

I am so mixed up on my days today! Yesterday felt like a week day since I worked all day. Today has felt like Saturday with Mike & Julie (T.J.'s parents) getting here late last night. We have had a very productive day! This morning we went to Denny's for breakfast. After that we shopped at Wal-Mart & Michael's. We had some yummy chicken and cheesy potatoes then sat around the fire.
We picked up some of this awesome corn at Wally World and the goodies to go with it at Michael's. They turned out pretty good!

Cocoa came too with Mike & Julie. Here's Mike playing with all the pups:)

T.J. and I have tomorrow off, so we are all going to the casino. Wish us luck:)

Who's up way past her bedtime?

ME! I have had a pretty crazy week. I had a job Thursday that was supposed to go 3 hours and went for 9.5. That was a loooong day! And they need it on Monday, so I have been trying to knock this bad boy out before T.J.'s parents get here tomorrow night -- oops, I mean tonight, I guess:) Oh, well. It will be good to have it done and turned in. I haven't had a long job like this in a while so it is a nice change of pace.

Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow morning and still have a little time to clean, do laundry, and make goodies, ie pumpkin bars & scotcharoos. Yum!!

Tonight I took a little break and went to Bingo and lost. We made a good run for the jackpot. Natasha was only one number away from the big $1,000 winning. I even wore my lucky shirt that I had on last time I won. But I did wash it, so I might have washed the luck away or something because it was no good for me tonight!

I don't know if I mentioned this, but I won another giveaway!! I won a $20 gift certificate to Ellebows Etsy site. I got my goods in the mail this week and they are so cute! I wish they were for me and not babies;) Now it's a question of keeping them for my some day kids or gifting them...only time will tell!

I am sure I have more things to tell you about, but this is all my tired brain can think of right now. I leave you with a few giveaways:)

First, Rae Gun Ramblings is having a giveaway for Japanese fat quarters. It would be fun to win these!!! You should check it out!

And last, but certainly not least, there is a giveaway over at Tales from Shopaholic Mommy for $200 giveaway. That's right...$200! I am sure I could handle winning $200 in jewelry!

Kaylan + Monday = Very Productive

Looking at all these pictures makes me feel like I really did accomplish something today. And besides the pictures I took, I also got all caught up on my DVR shows and finished washing the blankets that were in the hope chest.

After getting my hope chest out of storage, all the blankets I had in it needed washed. This is one of them. It is my t-shirt quilt from high school. This is just a number of the shirts I had from sports, clubs, etc. I love looking at it, though. It brings back so many memories! Some of the seams were coming apart, so I had to stitch them back together and I thought I would share a picture of it just for fun.
Today I made Mr. Frogger. You can find the tutorial at Lil Blue Boo. He was super easy to make. She made him with beans and I just stuffed him, so he's a softie:) Speaking of Lil Blue Boo, if you click HERE, it should take you to her blog where you can try to win a $50 gift card to Happy Chickadee. Holla!!!! :)
This weekend my mom brought me the goods to make this project. I have one hanging towel that I use and I love it. It is pretty ratty. Mom saw this at a craft show. It is sooo easy! The top part is just a square oven mitt with a hook in the middle, then the towel. I am planning on whipping up a few more of these!
This is the action shot.
Thanks, Mama, for the awesome idea!!
Can you tell what this is?
It's six sock monkeys in the works. I have a few requests in to make them. They are all sewn. They just need to be stuffed and finished. Stuffing is my least favorite part of any project!

Happy First Blogger Birthday!!!

Today marks one year I have been blogging! It snuck up on me or I might have tried to do a little something special. Oh, well, maybe next year:)

I had an early examination under oath today where my witness didn't show, got that turned in, and now I'm going to work on some sewing I have to do. I haven't been feeling well. I didn't feel good yesterday when I woke up and haven't felt well today either. I am really wondering if it isn't an ulcer after all...

Day Bed Makeover

Saturday night T.J. and I went to O'Reillys to watch the Iowa game. We met Brett & Regina and Natasha, Keith, Lydia & Brent came later. I forgot to take some pictures. I have been bad about that lately. Anyway, it was such a good game and so much fun to hang out and chat all night.

Today the day bed was delivered. Here is the before:
Here is the after:
We spray painted it silver, which I love. We couldn't find a bed skirt we liked, so we are using the print on the sheets on the trundle like a bed skirt.
This is the new shelf I got to organize all my craft crap. This room is overflowing and I have to organize it! I hate it messy. I can't find anything!
This is the closet and the reason for the shelf:)
See what I mean? What a mess!! Below is T.J.'s new work space to do the bills and work on his computer. We are going to redecorate in here with some of his sports/boy things, so the angel and my cross-stitch will have to go:)
On a side note, T.J. won $500 at work on Friday!!! WAHOO!!! It was awesome and couldn't have come at a better time. We have been talking about getting him a new computer to use at home since the one he uses is my old work one and it is painfully slow. I mean, when I try to do one thing on it, I want to poke my eyes out. It is so bad. I don't know how he can stand to use it. So hopefully we will be making that purchase soon!
Here are some frames that I have been collecting from Goodwill and Hobby Lobby. I want to get a couple more then I am going to hang them in a (hopefully) interesting way on one of the walls in our bedroom. I spray painted the ones I had today too.
This is my hope chest that was my Grandma Parker's. I am considering revamping this to a darker stain, but I don't know where to begin. I don't know if it is something that I can do or if I need to take it to a professional. I will have to research this and see. If anyone has any tips or knowledge, I would love to hear it all!
T.J. and I are going out for Halloween. I want to be something that we can be together, for example, pirates, where's waldo couple, etc. I really don't want to have to buy a costume if I don't have to. They are so expensive. If anyone has any good ideas of something I can throw together, let me know. I better figure this out before I run out of time!

I am exhausted because:

  • Mom, Scott, Brandon & Amber left this morning after loading up mom's stuff.
  • We ate a big Bob Evans breakfast after loading the truck.
  • It was freezing this morning loading up the truck and I was chilled to the bone until I took a bath this afternoon.
  • T.J. and I went and looked at a trundle and day bed we found on Craigslist for one of our extra rooms.
  • We stopped at Lowe's to get some paint to paint said day bed and T.J.'s corn hole game
My babies posing for a picture:)

Martha & Me & Glitter & Skulls

Today I was supposed to have a job, but it ended up getting cancelled, so I had all day to do whatever since my proofreader has all my work. We needed a few things and I had a few places to go. This is something I picked up while out and about. I saw the skulls while I was checking out at Kmart. I have seen on a blog where they did this with skulls. I have also seen it done with pumpkins. I can't remember whose it was or I would link back to it. It was so easy and I think they add a nice touch to my entryway!
