Refrigerator Alphabet and Sunglasses Case

I have had a couple of projects underway and just finished them today. First is my fridge alphabet. Instead of the plastic magnets, I made some of these out of scrapbook paper and magnets. I found the tutorial here. They made them out of fabric, but I liked some of the cute paper I had so I did it that way.

Then I also completed my second sunglasses case. I had the first one done a few days ago and thought I would try to quilt the second one in a free stitch way. It was a disaster and I obviously need some lessons on how to do it before I do it again! I made the cases to match the little bags I made a couple weeks ago. The tutorial I followed is here.

Weekend in Review

Well, you already know how Friday night went -- awesome! But the rest of our weekend was fun too. Saturday we slept in, ran a few errands, I did a little crafting, T.J. played his new college football xbox game, then we went downtown Indy to Champps to watch the UFC fights. We met Natasha & Keith down there and a couple of their friends came too. The fights were okay. Not that I ever get too excited about them. There were a lot of knock outs, so it went pretty fast.

After they were done we headed to the home base, O'Reilly's, for a few drinks. Oh, and Brett & Regina were there too at the end of the night. They went to a concert and then ended up meeting us downtown. It was so fun to hang out with everyone, but we were out way later than we usually are! The bars in Indianapolis can stay open until 3, so of course we stayed until close. That means that we did some serious sleeping in today!

Once we were up and around we went to Kohl's for the wonderful purchase shown below and Wal-Mart for groceries. I did some cooking this afternoon. Hopefully I won't have to cook much this week, just throw something new in the oven.

T.J. and I decided to get some Chuck Taylors at Kohl's. We have both been wanting a pair and we finally caved. T got a gray pair and mine are blue. I LOVE them!!! I also found out about Poladroid from another blog. It is how I got the picture to look like a Polaroid.

BINGO!!

Last night was Friday Night BINGO Night. It was so much fun! We had a good group of people come and three out of our group won! The big pot at the end of the night was for $1,000 and I actually won it!!! Someone else did too, so we had to split it. So I paid $25, was there for 4.5 hours, and left with $500. What a good night!!!
Can you tell how excited I was? I thought someone called BINGO when I saw that the next number would give me a BINGO. Then when I realized I won, it was amazing:)

Cute bags!

Okay. This should be my last craft of the day:) I am on a roll today! I found the tutorial for this bag here. Like I said before, I have never sewn a zipper on anything and was a little nervous using my zipper foot. I don't like changing things on my sewing machine because I don't want to screw anything up. I only had one mishap when I sewed across the zipper like I was supposed to, but left the handle part out. I had to seam rip a little spot and pull that in where it should be. No biggie. Tomorrow I think I am going to try to make a sunglasses case that matches. Wish me luck!!

Madsen Cycles

So I follow a website that is all about trying to win stuff. It's here. I think these bikes are cool and it would be fun to win, so I am putting it on my blog just in case today is my lucky day:)

Here's what's cookin'

Last night I finished my bean bags! They turned out so cute:)

I also got my ribbon all wrapped up. I saw this on another blog where you wrap ribbon around clothes pins instead of leaving them on the spools. It saves a lot of room and I think it looks good too!
This morning I decided to try some dye. It is a teal color. You can see the ones to the left that I had already dyed. The one in front I was attempting to tie-dye. It turned out okay. A lot of the dye ended up rinsing out when I washed it later.

I did some applique burp cloths today. The puzzle piece was a pain to sew around, so don't judge my sewing skills too harshly:) I love the wienie dog!

Then I made an Iowa one:)

Here is the results of the tie-dye. I put a peace sign on that one. The other one is for a baby whose name starts with A!!

Now I am off to watch Footloose and try to sew some bags with zippers. I haven't ever done anything with a zipper before, so I am a little nervous! Tonight I am also going on another bike ride. After the 30 miles on Monday, I am sure tonight will be a breeze. We usually go slower and not as long with this group.
I am all caught up on work and don't have a job tomorrow, so I will hopefully have more stuff made. I hope you don't get tired of seeing all the stuff I have been making!

Martha, Martha, Martha:)

On Monday T.J. had gone to work and left the tv channel on whatever it was when he turned his xbox off, so I ended up watching Martha Stewart. She had Christy Hodgson, who sells stuff on Etsy under BellaBluDesigns. What she made is seriously the cutest thing EVER. I'm sure you know how into my dogs I am, which is why I LOVE these so much!! Here is an example:
Here are some instructions on how to make them yourself. She also puts the pups on bags or wall art. I really want to try it! I just had to share because I think this is so stinkin' cute!!!

Wish List Wednesday

Because money doesn't grow on trees:

So sometimes I kind of have a hard time trying to think of things for Wish List Wednesday. It's not like I don't have tons of stuff that I wish for, it's just that when it's time to actually put it down, I can't think of anything. So I thought that I would theme my lists. This week it's the kitchen. Immediately I thought of Rachael Ray. I love watching her 30 Minute Meals on Food Network, so I went to her website and found all the stuff that she uses that I would love to have:)

But the first on my list is a nice set of silverware. We have had bad luck in the silverware department. We need to fork over the money for a good set that we can have forever!

Graters like these for cheese grating and garlic or zest grating.

I love these spoons. You can hook them on the pot, so you don't make a mess all over your stove like me:)

A GB -- garbage bowl:)

Nice pans!

Super sharp knives. Although T.J. does like to pretend he is a chef and I am a little afraid for his fingers!

A picnic backpack. How cool is this? We were just saying that we wish we had a picnic basket!

And last but not least (and I know this has nothing to do with the kitchen, but I always do some type of travel or activity:)) a hot air balloon ride. I LOVE seeing them when there are a bunch of them. I really want to go for a ride. I hear Conner Prairie here in Indy offers rides, so I am going to check into that!

Etsy

I'm sure many of you know about Etsy, but just in case, I wanted to spread the word! I have fallen in love with this website. There is a lot of handmade stuff being sold on there. I have a few things I would love to get -- maybe some Christmas gifts. There are also quite a few things that I have seen that I want to make as well!

I would like to share with you some of my favorite sellers. They all have super cute stuff they are selling!
1. This and That from Japan
2. HouseHoldWords
3. Paisley Pockets

Happy Shopping:)

Alphabet Bean Bags

My latest project is coming along nicely. Today I finished cutting out the letter stencils from the freezer paper, ironed the stencils to my fabric, painted three coats of paint for the letters on the fabric, and assembled ten. That assembly includes sewing inside out, turn right side out, iron, sew around outside, stuff with pinto beans, then sew hole closed. Phew. So if you want to do it, go here for real directions:)
I think they turned out pretty cute.

Herky was just sitting by these when I wanted to take the picture:) I had to offer him some cheese, though, to get him to look at me. The dogs hate the flash on my camera!

Mike & Julie Here

Mike & Julie came for a visit this weekend. We had so much fun having them here! We got to eat at Gray Bros. Friday, which is cafeteria style eating. It is so good! Saturday we did some shopping, watched The Ugly Truth in the theater, grilled out, then had a fire. The dogs just love when their grandma and grandpa come for a visit. They get lots of love, walks, and treats:)
Here are a few pics from this weekend:

Congratulations, Roger & Abby

As a lot of you know, our good friends, Roger & Abby, have been trying/waiting/wanting/needing/praying for a baby. Well, that day has come. They got their referral on Thursday, August 20th!! It's a boy and he's very healthy and handsome and perfect. We are so happy for them!

It was such an awesome feeling when Abby called and said they got their referral. I got so choked up. I am getting teary now just writing this. This has been such a long and frustrating journey. They aren't out of the woods yet. They won't be able to bring their baby home from Ethiopia for a few months. I just pray that he stays happy and healthy until they can bring him to his new home. I also hope that everything goes smoothly, they pass court on the first time, and the next few months go as fast a possible.

Congratulations, Mom and Dad! You guys are going to be great parents!!

Next Up:

Last night I went through all my fabric and cut two squares of each fabric. I also ironed all of it and got it folded into nice neat piles. We'll see how long that lasts:) Anyway, my next project is alphabet bean bags. I found it here.
I also wanted to mention a blog I found today with a super cute alphabet book. She is giving away some of the fabric that could be used to make one of your or my own:) I hope I win!!!
Go HERE to check out her blog.

I would like to introduce, Docker, the sock monkey

The early stages.

All done. I hope that I made him strong enough for a little one to love, hug, and play with. The original sock monkey was made out of some of these socks. My sock monkey was made out of a pair of men's Dockers dress socks. Because of that, I had to sew on his facial feature since it wasn't built into the sock. I just love him and I hope that one of the preschoolers at the burn camp in Sacramento, CA will too. This blog has all the details. If you are interested in making one too, you should check it out!

Things I made on Sunday

Homemade mac & cheese -- YUM-O!!

I got pointy kitty done. His head is pretty big. I should have stuffed his front legs fuller b/c his head is weighing him down:)

And last but not least, I made another tag blankie. I figured this fabric could be for a boy or girl. I used white with black polka dots flannel fabric on the back.

I just loved the paw print and ruler ribbon!
