Nursery: From Primed White to Yellow

The first thing Mom and I did Saturday morning was paint the nursery. It only took one coat of the yellow and turned out so pretty! We got a different light for the nursery the last time we were at Ikea, so T.J. got that hung. The old light that was there left a ring, so mom painted a yellow circle from the ring outline. I am going to do some embellishing to it, but haven't had a chance to do that yet. In this picture, mom is painting the ceiling and T.J. is staining the window valance boxes that Scott made.

I wanted to bring more red into the room so the dresser wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. Ikea sells red stain that matches the dresser, so we picked some of that up a while ago in anticipation of making these boxes.

When I bought the bedding, it was on sale pretty cheap, so went ahead and bought all of what they had. So I have a couple of bed skirts, bumpers, etc. I knew I would use the fabric, so I went ahead and bought them up. I wanted to give the window valances a little pick-me-up, so we used one of the bed skirts to make a little trim for them.

The view from the hallway:

T.J. and I go into the nursery multiple times a day and just say how much we like it. I can't wait to hopefully get the crib this week! Then we can get it put together and have it actually start looking like a nursery in there.
I have to say a huge thanks to MOM and SCOTT for all of their hard work!!!! There is no way we could have gotten all of this done without you! We really appreciate you coming out over your long weekend and helping us out so much!

More Weekend Projects

Because a visit from Mom and Scott just wouldn't be right if we didn't have tons of stuff to do, we kept them very busy! In the last post I mentioned an abundance of hostas, so we planted a bunch around the house too.
Here is a before picture:

And here it is after:

Scott built us a little topper for the dog kennel.
The stain matches the rest of the furniture in our family room. Now I need to get a lamp and pictures of something to put on it. I am excited to actually be able to use it like a table.

The cradle got some attention this weekend. I got a foam pad for the mattress, then mom helped recover the bumper pads with a sheet from Target that matched the sheet we put down on the foam pad. It's all ready for McBaby!

Two of our three stairways didn't have railings, so Scott was able to cut, stain, and mount those this weekend too! Now I will feel a little safer carrying our little one down the stairs!

Shed Makeover -- Completed!

Mom and Scott came out just in time to help us complete the shed makeover. They came bearing gifts too! Lori, one of mom's co-workers, has an abundance of hostas, so they brought a bunch of them out for us to plant. Thanks, Lori!!
Remember THIS post from last weekend about the shed makeover? Well, we picked right up where T.J. and I left off and got it all finished!! Here is the hosta garden before:

And after:

The whole shed area after:

Ta-da! We got the edging down, hostas in, bushes and flowers on the left there, mulched, and flowers in the flowerbox on the shed. I just hope we can keep all these flowers and plants alive through the hot summer months! Lots of watering for us!

24 Sweet Weeks

Last night Mom, Scott, T.J. & I went to eat at BD's BBQ. It's a fun place where you can make your own bowl of food and they cook it in front of you. Then we went mini golfing.

I am being a huge pile today and not willing to take any pictures of myself. I thought this one is a pretty good side shot that gives you an idea of how huge I am getting. I think my tummy had a growth spurt this week!

And because I don't want anyone to miss out on this, T.J. made a seafood dish at dinner and had this little guy in his dish:

Gross!!!!! Then he ate it. Eww!!!!

Doctor, Cooking & Cleaning

Today I had another doctor's appointment. It went well! The doctor said my numbers all looked good -- weight, baby's heart rate, and my blood pressure. It's always such a relief to hear the heart rate on the doppler! I have to do the glucose test at my next appointment, which is in about four weeks. Then after that appointment, I have to start going every two weeks.

The doctor asked about feeling kicks yet, and I said that I think I just started feeling them. She said that by my next appointment it should be more pronounced and have a pattern.

After I got home today, I cleaned the house and did some cooking/baking. I made brownies, chocolate chip cookies, cheese ball, and some pasta salads. I was exhausted at 4 and took a little nap. Then I got to work on a little sewing project that I have needed to do for a long time.

Mom and Scott should be here late tonight, then it's going to be a whirlwind weekend, I'm sure! I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend!!

Double Take: Lucky Charms

That's right. I had Lucky Charms for two meals today. Why is it all that sounds good?

Otherwise, I don't really have much to note. I am working hard on a transcript of a job I took today. I want to get it to my proofer ASAP so I don't have to worry about it this weekend.

On one side note, I did have a dream last night that our lil McBaby was a boy. Maybe it's a sign?!?

Dead Until Dark

I just finished listening to Dead Until Dark. It's the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series that True Blood is based on on HBO. That was less than a week! We'll see if I can get through the second book as quickly. Maybe! There are ten in this series, so I hope they all go this quick.

If I can blow through all these, I will be right around my goal of 20 books for the year. I might have to up my number of books to read/listen to this year!

Fun Facts

  • You can really see my linea nigra. It is getting darker and darker. At first I thought it was just hair, but it's pretty noticeable. I was going to post a picture, but I am too self-conscious to do it! :)
  • I think I can feel the baby kick. I am still not 100 percent sure, but it feels like McBaby is getting a good kickboxing workout in!
  • My biggest craving right now? Lucky Charms. I have them every morning for breakfast and have thought about having them for dinner too a couple times but didn't. I am so not a big cereal eater, let alone the sugar cereal. But for now, it's oh so delicious.
  • My second biggest craving? Breakfast food. Eggs, bacon, toast. Usually I will eat this every now and then, but now it always sounds so good!
  • No stretch marks yet. I have been lathering up on the cocoa butter and hoping I can keep them away! So far so good.
  • This week I stopped taking the unisom and B6 at night before bed. It really helped me sleep, but I was always waking up on my back and decided that I should probably stop taking it. It's been a rough couple of nights, but last night was better than the night before, so hopefully it will just get better and better.
  • We ordered our crib this weekend!!!! We found one that we loved at Babies R Us a couple weeks ago, then when we went to order it Sunday, it was out of stock. Luckily, we found the same crib at Wal-Mart, so we were able to order it AND get a better deal!
  • Mom and Scott are coming out this weekend. (Roger and Abby were going to, but due to a not so happy baby on long car rides, they decided not to bring Ari this year.) Hopefully we can make some headway on the nursery -- painting it yellow and getting the window treatment things up!
  • I have my next doctor's appointment on Friday. I have one more in a month and then I start going every two weeks.

Diapers!!!

I just wanted to share a little news with you! Today T.J. and I bought our first box of diapers. I am sure this will be the first of MANY boxes we buy. And I probably won't be inclined to post about diapers again until they are no longer needed. So for now, I wanted to share my excitement for the first box.
I had a coupon for these kind, so we went with these. We are going to get a few different brands to try out to see which ones work best on McBaby's bum.

Shed Makeover

This weekend has been focused mainly on our shed. On Saturday I painted it white, which took most of my day. Then today I trimmed it out. The trim is the same color as our shutters on the front of the house.
Before:
After:

We did a little landscaping around the shed that isn't totally finished yet. The black paper stuff is down, along with the mulch, and the three flowers with a bush. We just need to figure out how we are going to edge it. Then off to the left we are going to run a strip of landscaping along the fence too. We also put a couple of stones down in front of the door.

In the picture below you can see the future home of some hostas. Mom has some that she is going to split, so hopefully we can get some over there and get that all spruced up.

Nursery: From Blue to Primed White

Today we got the nursery primed. It is so hot here today -- in the 90s! So we painted first thing this morning with the windows open for lots of good ventilation.

Before: Blue
After: Primed White
Now I need to ask a favor of my dear sister, Keriann, or my sweet mother, Barb, to come and help paint the nursery yellow! I did the trim with the primer and I am soooo bad at it! Thank goodness the primer and the ceiling are so close in color! There is no way I could handle the yellow, though. I sure hope one of them is up for it because otherwise our nursery is going to be a gross light white over blue:)

The Host

For the last couple of days I have been listening to The Host by Stephanie Meyer all the time. I started it a while ago, but it was getting really good and I really wanted to finish it. I must say that if you are interested in reading or listening to it, it starts off slow, but definitely does get good!

Now I am going to start the Sookie Stackhouse series that True Blood on HBO is based on. I hear the books are quick and easy to get through, which is good because there are ten of them! I am going to try to get through most of the first one, Dead Until Dark, tomorrow while I paint the clothesline posts and the shed. I will try to remember to do some before and after pics of the shed.

Shopping and Taping

I had a job this morning in Danville. On my way there, I passed a garage sale that appeared to have children's stuff. I went to my job, which ended up being a no-show witness, then I decided I would stop at that garage sale on the way home. I got some really great things for cheap! I got some bibs, spoons and forks, sleep sacks, a couple neutral outfits, and clothes hangers.

Since I didn't have much else to do, I decided to go to Motherhood Maternity and look for a bathing suit. I decided on this one. I thought I would spare everyone and put a picture of the model on here instead of me. Ha!

After I got home I cut up some veggies, made homemade banana bread, and worked in the nursery. I went through all the stuff we have accumulated so far for McBaby. I got everything sorted and put away. Then I taped the room off for painting. Hopefully this weekend we can get started! I can't wait for it to start coming together!

Fence

Our fence was started on Saturday and finished today. It is awesome and I am loving it already. Being able to open the door and let the dogs out is so nice! T.J. and I have already agreed that we will try to take the pups for regular walks since they love them so much.
I have been working a lot today and have a pretty strong stomach ache. Now I am going to lay on the couch and catch up with Oprah.

Regarding the Questions Post

Thank you so much to everyone who has e-mailed me about my questions!!! I can't thank you enough! I really do appreciate every one of you who took time out of your day to sit down and type me an e-mail. Every e-mail that I received was long and descriptive, and I know that takes time. I have heard lots of helpful hints and tips. Believe me, we will be referring back to these e-mails!

If you haven't e-mailed because you are too shy, don't be! I love to hear all experiences. Don't worry, I won't get freaked out if you follow my blog. It's public, not private, so I expect that there are people following that I don't know about.

In case you can't tell, I am a big worrier. It's not just about pregnancy and being a new mom. I fret over stuff all the time. It really helps me not feel so overwhelmed to blog about it and get all the feedback! I will be sure to post more questions in the future:) Thanks again!!!

Baby Book

This weekend while registering at Babies R Us we came across this baby book and I fell in love. T.J. thinks we have too many polka dots on everything for the baby, but I thought it was darling!
While unpacking from our move, I came across my baby book. It was so fun to sit and read everything that my mom put in there about me. T.J. even sat and read it one night. I want to be able to pass that onto our baby. I need to get started on it so that I have it all updated when we go to the hospital.

Here is my baby book:

Questions

Here is a post I have for all you experienced Mommies out there! This Mommy-to-be is looking for advice and your expertise, so please don't hesitate to give it to me! We haven't taken any birthing classes, so some of these questions will probably get answered then, but I have a few things I have been feeling unsure of, so here goes:

1. Diapers. I have heard a lot about different brands working for different people, etc. So we are going to try a couple different ones and see what works for us. I was planning on having a few different newborn brands at home to have ready for when we bring the baby home. Do you think a couple packages will be enough or do I need to get more?

2. I need to get a breast pump. Any tips on a good brand? I will be going back to work full-time after having the baby, so I hope I can pump for a little while and still use breast milk. What else do I need? I think a cooler bag to keep the milk cool after pumping on the go. Anything else off the top of your head?

3. How do you all feel about pack and plays? We registered for one but I might take it off. We have a cradle in the basement that we can use down here until the baby pulls itself up, then I won't be able to use it anymore. I am not sure this is actually a necessary item to have and I don't want to waste money and have extra items we don't need laying around. Thoughts? Pluses? Minuses?

4. Epidural? I know this sounds crazy, but I have been having a mental debate over whether I want to get an epidural or not. Did you get one or not and would you do it again or different?

5. Do you really need a bottle warmer? What about a bottle sterilizer?

6. Do we really need the seat protectors for our cars? I would totally do it if I had a nice car I was worried about, but is it really necessary? A couple years ago I spilled Banana smoothie made out of milk all over my front car seats at 4 in the morning when I was on my way to work out. Does it really get much worse than that?

7. Clothing. Since we aren't finding out what we are having, I have tried to find some cute unisex things for the babe to wear when we get home. How much newborn clothing do you think I need to have? 10 onesies? 20?

8. Baby monitor. We registered for a normal baby monitor. I don't really think we need the video monitor. Does anyone have strong opinions one way or the other on this one? I think the video would be fun to have, but they are quite a bit more expensive than the non-video.

9. Should I have formula on hand at home in case the pumping doesn't go well? I think mom will be here, so T.J. or mom can go and get some. Maybe that's not necessary. What do you think?

I know some of these seem silly, but they are constantly on my mind. I would really appreciate your comments and help! If you would rather e-mail me, it's tk_mccord@hotmail.com

Hello? Is anybody there? (22 Sweet Weeks)

I am here!! Sorry for my lack of blogging lately! If you are still checking up on me and wondering where I have been, I have no excuse. I have just been busy with settling in our new house and getting ready for McBaby to make its arrival. Speaking of McBaby, here is our latest picture.
I am 22 weeks along today and can't believe it! The weeks are really flying by now! We got registered this weekend at Target and Babies R Us. Feel free to scope out the registries and give me some feedback on things I missed or have too many of. It was pretty hard to remember everything!

I had big plans this weekend to get some work done outside. Our shed needs painted along with our clothesline poles, but it didn't happen. Rain was threatening all weekend, so we just took it easy inside most of the time. T.J. did get the mowing in and I did some mulching out front.

On Friday I did pick up the paint for the nursery. I can't wait to get it painted and start putting things in there and having it actually look like a nursery instead of a catchall.

Now I am going to get busy on some work and finish the laundry (my new obsession). See you all tomorrow. I promise!!

Master Bedroom

We finally got our dressers put together! We LOVE them! The drawers are big, and we are finding ourselves with too much storage for clothes in our bedroom. That never happens!

TJ was finally able to get his bedside table in. I got our new lamps, bedskirt, and rug put in.

We love how it's coming together. Now we just need some pictures and decoration stuff.

21 Sweet Weeks and a House Tour

Today marks 21 weeks for us and our lil McBaby. I still haven't felt any kicks or punches yet, but I am sure I will get my fill once they do start! I have had mild heartburn this last week, but it wasn't anything a couple of Tums couldn't cut through. Here is my mug...I mean belly shot for the week. One of these days I will take a decent picture for this blog. Until then, though, you get the freshly showered, sweat pants wearing pictures.

Now it's tour time. The house is kind of coming together. Some rooms are definitely more complete than others. T.J. and I cleaned this weekend, so I wanted to get some pictures taken before we mess it all up. I will start at the bottom and work my way up.
Here is the laundry room. It is the only room that is totally finished, doesn't need anything bought for it. I think, anyway.

The downstairs bathroom. We only need to get a toilet paper holder and maybe a little shelf or something in here and it's a done room.
Family room/office. This room is also an almost complete room. I want to get a tall plant over in the right corner of this picture. I can't decide if I want to take on the responsibility of a real one or just get a fake one.

We also need to get something to hang on the wall behind the couch. I am thinking some kind of metal art or something like that. We'll see.

The cradle is one that my Great Uncle Walt made when I was a baby. I need to get a cushion or find a mattress that will fit in it. Then I need to get or make some sheets for it too.
That's the family room.
I wanted to take a picture of our stair treads we found. The dogs were having a heck of a time on the stairs and when I wore socks, they were kind of slippery, so we found these at Menards. They make a huge difference!
Kitchen

Pantry
Dining room. We haven't done anything in here yet. Some day I want a new table and chairs with some kind of hutch/bar thing, but I might have to wait for that. It's at the bottom of my list.
Living room. Here is our new couch. Isn't is pretty? I love it!! We found the pillows at Target this last weekend. As you can see, we haven't gotten started on the entertainment center area. This will be a whole project in itself!
Guest bedroom. Look at that nice set up! Perfect for lots of guests to come and see us (Hint! Hint!)
The guest bedroom is also T.J.'s office and where he is going to keep his "boy" things.
Here is the nursery. As you can see, it is a disaster. We will be building that dresser tonight that is leaning on the walls.
Here is the baby's red dresser. Isn't it cute? It's a mess on top, extra pictures and some of my old clothes that my mom saved from when I was a baby. I can't wait to post pictures of the progress the nursery makes in the future!
Bathroom

Master bedroom. We got a king bed!!!!! It's AWESOME! The dogs have been sleeping with T.J. over on his side, and I have had my whole big half of a king sized bed all to myself. We are going to get different lamps. The ones we have are pretty huge and take up almost all of our bedside tables. Oh, and we need a bed skirt too and to clean up the cords. Just look at the bed, not anything else:)
Outside front of the house. We got these rocking chairs this weekend and love them! The porch is so nice to sit out on, and the rockers are so comfy. I foresee lots of time in those!
From the side of the house looking at the backyard.
The backyard where it would be nice to someday make a patio.
Shed and clothesline. We are going to paint the clothesline poles and the shed soon. I want to paint the shed white and then paint the flower box and shutters to match the shutters on the house. I also want to plant some flowers/bushes around there.
Once we get to some of these other projects going, I will be able to post photos and refer back to this post for some before pictures. We love our house and love having a place of our own.
