Milk Closet

There was a REALLY good coupon in the paper a couple months ago for Miles' formula.  We were able to get enough formula until he's one and can have cow's milk.  This results in a closet full of milk for Miles!  We had a coupon for $5.00 off any Similac product.  One bottle of formula is $5.50 most places.  Milk for $.50?  Yes, please!
Thanks, everyone, who helped contribute to our coupon clipping frenzy.  This seriously saved us hundreds of dollars.  Wahoo!!

Swimming & a Picnic

This Memorial Day weekend has been a lot of firsts for Miles.  Let's review, shall we?  First Indy 500 Parade, first time to the zoo, and now today it was his first time swimming outside and first picnic.  It's no wonder he was down for the count early tonight and we haven't heard a peep from him!

We went to Splash Island today for about an hour of good solid pool time.  We got out to reapply sunscreen on Miles, but decided maybe we would just call it a day.  As soon as he was strapped in his car seat, he was asleep.  We got home, I took the trunks off and changed his diaper without him even waking up.  He was exhausted!

Here he is in all his gear.

After Miles got up from his nap, we went to the park for a picnic.  Little did we know that we set up right next to some people playing with swords and shields doing medieval role-playing like on "Role Models."

See photo below.
For real.  When they would hit a body part with the sword, they had to pretend like it got cut off.  Then if they got killed, they could come back in after 30 seconds. Let's just say it was entertaining.

We had BLTs, pasta salad, veggies, and chocolate covered strawberries.  Miles took his first crawling steps -- crawls -- whatever you call it.  He was on all fours and would go a couple steps/crawls and then went down.  I think it helped being on the lumpy ground and on a blanket.  It wasn't so easy for him to army crawl around on it.

We had such a fun, exciting, exhausting weekend!  I am so ready for summer and am so glad it's here!

Miles' First Zoo Experience

The forecast for today was 90s and overcast.  We knew it was going to be hot, so we got up early and got to the zoo not long after it opened.  It was warm, but a great day to be there.  There was a little breeze, which made it a little more comfortable.

Miles really enjoyed checking all the animals out!

Waiting for the sharks to come swim by.

The animals were very active.  This tiger was really close!
And this bear was too.  Scary!
All tuckered out!

After the zoo we drove by the speedway to catch some of the action.  The road was blocked so we couldn't get too close.  You could hear the cars, though, when they went by the end of the track that we were closest too.  It wasn't as loud outside of the stadium as I thought it would be.

When we got home we filled up Miles' little pool.  The water was pretty chilly just going in, but he played in it real quick anyway.  Hopefully tomorrow it will be nice and warm for him to play in!

Mother's Day

For Mother's Day this year, T.J. and I got our moms a little something special.
My mom actually got me a hand-stamped necklace for an early birthday present, and I love it!
So I thought maybe we could do something for our moms on their first Grandmother's Day.

We got this necklace for Grandma Julie.

We got this necklace for Grammy Barb.

Indy 500 Parade -- Picture Overload!

Today was the Indy 500 Parade.  It was a PERFECT day for a parade.  It was 70, overcast, and a little windy.  The people with the big balloon things probably though it was a little too windy.  They were really struggling with those things!

Anyway, I wanted to include a pic of Miles T.J. took earlier this week.  You can really see his teeth!
Here are the motorcycle police that start the parade.  They are my favorite!

And Miles' new favorite thing...blow pops!

After we got home from the parade, we played in the backyard.  It was so nice out, we just had to enjoy the wonderful weather!

We played some corn hole while grilling for dinner, ate, then watched Country Strong.  I am so thankful for fun days like these!

Thanks Grammy B for my new hat!

More Crawling

I realized that I haven't really posted anymore of Miles rocking the army crawl since he first learned it. He has mastered it and can get everywhere doing it. Lately he has been going over toys, pillows, dog beds. You name it, and he crawls over it:) He goes up on all fours while playing, but hasn't mastered the full crawl yet. He is so close to sitting up on his own too. He will kind of roll to his side and push up. He just needs a little oomph to get him all the way sitting up.

36 Weeks

Why did I only buy one yard of fabric?  Ugh!  He hardly ever stretches all out, so I really wanted to use this one.  Darn the small fabric. :)

Playing Catch and Giggles

T.J. and I had a little date matinee at the movie theater.  Keriann & Derrick babysat Miles, and we went to see Bridesmaids.  It was pretty funny and nice to have a little adult time off.  While we were gone, they got some cute video of Derrick & Miles playing catch.  We get a kick out of him shaking his head no.

Here is one after we got home.  The giggles never get old, do they? :)

Quilt Top

This past week Keriann and I got a wild hair to do some sewing.  She whipped up something that I can't share yet.  I will soon, though.  And I wanted to make Miles a blanket out of some of his weekly fabrics.  Keriann finished hers first, so she was so sweet to help me sew mine.  It would have taken me forever to do it alone.  I cut it all one night, then we sewed it all together a couple nights later while watching Oprah.  I have 23 recorded shows left, but I am trying to catch up because I want to watch the finale.  I don't think I am going to make it since the finale is this week, but maybe soon I will be all caught up.

Here it is all sewn together.  I really want to try to quilt it myself.  I haven't quilted before, so this could be interesting.  I am planning on buying a walking foot soon and practicing on a pillow or two first.  Wish me luck!

Olson Wedding

The reason for the trip back to Iowa this weekend was for my cousin Jenna's wedding to Josh.  We were so excited to help them celebrate and see all my side of the family.  Miles was amazing!  The wedding was in Mason City, which is another two hours north of Baxter.  Lucky for us, he slept most of the way there and back.

After the ceremony they handed out bubbles to blow as the couple went to the limo.  It was a rainy day so we just ended up not doing the bubble thing and heading to the reception.   We went to our room and got Miles fed and tried out the bubbles.  He LOVED them!  I think we will be playing with lots of bubbles this summer!
