These Days

Today I turned in two big technical video transcripts.  My back and my brain are killing me!

One thing that helped me get through it was opening the windows last night.  It has been feeling stuffy in the house, so I have been dying to open them.  Plus, as you know, when it's nice outside and you are stuck inside working it really stinks.  Finally last night was cool, so T.J. agreed to open the house up.  It's going to be back in the upper 80s/90s again in the next day or two, so they will be closed again soon.  For now, though, the fresh air is just what I needed!

Monday morning I made a trip to the chiro, and while I was there he checked out my toe.  Pretty sure it's just a bad sprain.  I am still limping around, but it's getting better every day.  My toes really need painted or I would show you a picture of my rocking bruises.  Sorry for the teaser.

Last week I finished listening to/reading The Shack.  It was a really good book.  Have you read it?  Do you have any good book suggestions?

Dirty Baby

We had a nice rain a few days ago, so we let Miles play a little in it.  Then one thing led to another, and he was playing in the mulch and doing what boys do.

A New Set of Wheels

We got a new-to-us Honda Odyssey!
I found it online, we went and looked at it, put a deposit on it all on Saturday.
Then today we went and signed everything and this hotrod is all ours!
It is pretty sweet with leather, DVD player, sunroof, and more bells and whistles.
We got Miles a new seat too, and he's going to be facing forward now.  I'm sure he is going to LOVE that!
T.J. is going to be the main driver.  I am scared to death to park this thing.  It's huge!
Anybody in the market for a 2000 Dodge Intrepid? :)

50 Weeks

Miles is changing so much every day!
Just the other day I asked Miles for a hug, and he leaned in and put his head down.  So cute!  He isn't much of a snuggler unless he is super tired, even then he really fights it.  So the hug, even if only for a second or two, is so sweet!

This morning before I was leaving I asked Miles for a kiss.  He opened right up ready for a big smooch with his breakfast in there and all.  Note to self, don't ask when the baby is eating.  Duh:)

I don't know if I have mentioned it on here yet, but Miles has another tooth.  It's his bottom left tooth next to his middle one.  I am sure that other bottom one on the other side will be poking through soon.

We are working on blowing kisses and saying he's 1.

Miles is really into stacking things lately.

When we switched to sippy cups, we switched his bedtime routine.  Now he drinks all his milk at dinner and a little bit after, has a bath, then plays a little.  Then we will ask him if he's ready for bed, and he crawls to the stairs, we open the gate, he crawls up.  Once we get up and situated, we read a story and say a prayer.  It is so cute because as soon as you put the book down, he puts his hands together.

Cheater, Cheater Pumpkin Eater

I have been doing so good being a vegetarian. I kind of shocked myself by doing it as long as I did. I had a weak moment today, though, and have a Five Guys burger.

And it was so good! I have been craving one on and off for about a week now, so I don't feel too bad about it. Now I am going to try to not have meat for a while again.

I either broke my second toe or sprang it pretty bad yesterday. I am self medicating with Tylenol. It hurts! (hence my weakness about the burger)

I was looking through my old phone pics from when Miles was a brand new baby, and I wanted to share this one. I love that I got all the boys to look at me!

49 Weeks

It's hard to believe this baby boy is already almost a year old!
I had some other shots that I thought were funny to share.
Miles doing his downward dog.
Up on one knee.  He is so close to standing up!
He threw the "J" beanbag.  I put an arrow by it to point it out.
Isn't it weird what the camera did with it?

Up on his knees.
I saw this today here.  Makes me feel a lil old.

Tie-dye King

Miles playing out front in the mulch and rocks.  Grandpa and Grandma McCord got him this shirt at the Iowa State Fair.  I didn't even realize that it matched these shoes perfectly!

Indiana State Fair

Derrick, Keriann, TJ, Miles, and I hit the Indiana State Fair tonight. It was a little hot, but a pretty nice night to come. I only snapped one picture -- oopsies!

We got to park in the fair grounds for free and got free admission, so that was pretty awesome. I had some corn on the cob, crunchy homemade chip things, and a shaken lemonade. TJ had a cheese burger (lame!) and a funnel cake.

It's an hour and a half past Miles' bedtime and he is still wide awake. Maybe the ride back will get him sleepy.

Busy Baby

I love this picture because of the way Miles is sitting.  Those of you that know T.J. know how unflexible he is.  We will see how long Miles can sit like this!
Do you think the baby needs a haircut?
I do!!  That hair in the back is getting to me.  T.J. thinks it's so cute and isn't ready to cut it yet.  Maybe before his birthday we will get it done.

48 Weeks

This week he is doing his new trick -- clapping.  He gets so excited when he does it too!
Here are a couple of his other cute ones from this week.

Miles, at 11 months you:
  • clap
  • give high fives
  • wave bye-bye
  • say "So big" by putting your hands in the air when asked "How big is Miles?"
  • love corn on the cob
  • have had whole milk for two days now at snack time and love it
  • slept in for the first time, clocking in at 13 hours straight
  • stand leaning against furniture, then balance by yourself for a few seconds before grabbing on to something or falling
  • played peekaboo with the blanket and mommy
  • say "mamamama" and "dadadadada" but don't really know the meaning yet
  • are making lots of sounds like gaga and kaka or making hissing sounds
  • will pet Herky nicely sometimes, but sometimes pull his hair
  • can't really pet Baxter because he gets excited and just wants to play
  • love riding on or in things like a shopping cart, wagon, or stroller.  You love your little tractor and Colt too
  • are done drinking out of bottles.  This week we officially have made the switch to sippy cups
  • no longer want help holding your cup and want to do it all by yourself
  • love goldfish, puffs, yogurt snacks, fruit, and any other snack food you can feed yourself
  • love to dance when music is on or we sing
  • don't have to use the seat anymore in the tub
  • are now free to roam the main level of the house since the gates are up.  You do lots of laps
  • have six teeth, two on bottom and four on top
  • crawl with a little kick from your foot.  You also bear crawl a lot
  • scream when the dogs bark
  • love playing outside and discovering everything, especially rocks

On the way home from Iowa Miles started playing peekaboo with his blankie.  It was so cute!

Iowa State Fair Time (And Other Happenings in Iowa)

Miles had a great week in Iowa seeing lots of people, but it took a toll on him.  On Wednesday we got up and headed to T.J.'s Uncle Tom's house to stay for a couple nights.  He fell asleep on the way there and slept in his seat for another hour and a half.  Here he is in his seat.

After Miles' nap we went to Noodle Zoo for lunch with Beth.  She brought him a first birthday present -- an adorable set of books and a super cute blankie that she made.  Here he is sleeping with his new blankie.

Iowa State Fair time!  When we were planning our trips back this year, I knew I wanted to make it to the fair.  I'm so glad that it worked out!  Grandpa Mike and Grandma Julie came too, and we had such a great time.  Miles tried a few bites of fair food and got lots of good people watching in.  He even fell asleep in his stroller, which he never does.

We thought about getting a Herky hat, but it was too big.

After we got home from the fair, Miles took a little nap.  He didn't sleep too long and woke up pretty fussy.  He and I took another little nap together, then we got up to get ready to meet Ben and Amanda for dinner.  Miles was really hot and crabby, so we ran to Target, bought a thermometer, and got some medicine.  He had a fever of 101.1.  It's the first fever he's ever had.  We gave him some ibuprofen and acetaminophen, and that did the trick.  He was still a little warm the next day, but it went down.

I had this picture of Miles on Mom & Scott's motorcycle that I thought was cute.
We replaced the light in the dining room today.  We bought it about a month ago, so it's about time we get it hung up!

On a side note, Keriann is thinking about making cake pops for her wedding.  I also want to make some for Miles' birthday party.  So we decided to do a practice run.  Looks like we need more practice, huh?

We baby proofed the house today.  We finally installed some fancy baby gates, got all the cupboards secured, and outlets covered.  We scored some baby gates at Target for a good deal.  The ones we got were $50.  One of them was an open box, so we got it for $30.  Score!  Then one of our stairways has a banister, so we had to get a converter thing.  I was going to order one online, but found one at the third Target we went to.  It was an online order/return.  It was $40 and I got it for $10.  Wahoo!

The only thing that we have left to do is tape some cords down and put some stop things on drawers and a couple cupboards.  He is exploring and getting into EVERYTHING.

Lots of Handmade Gifts

I had a couple of things I made for some of my special friends.
First up is a pillow for Payton.
Next up are a couple of hooded towels.  Mom and I saw some at the farmer's market and decided to give it a go.  They were pretty easy to sew, and are so great to use with babies!  Miles only has one good sized hooded towel.  He has a few that are small, and they don't keep him warm.  I need to make a couple for our house now!

I saw a tutorial on these soap dispensers on Lil Boo Blue.
My etching doesn't show up as dark as hers.  I'm not sure why not.  Or maybe I don't know how to photograph it to make it show up better.  Either way, we are enjoying our soap dispenser, and gave one to our friends who just moved into their new house.

Magnets at Grammy's

I was telling Mom about the magnets that Miles went bananas over at Nolan's house.
Then she went downstairs and grabbed this that she had got at a garage sale.  He loved it!  We definitely will be getting some of these for our house!
