A Big Monday!

Miles has been doing so good without a binky. Sometimes he takes a little longer than other times to get to sleep. You can hear him up there babbling. Then other time he passes straight out.

Today I took him to the gym to play while I worked out. Then when I got home, TJ, Miles, and Derrick ran downtown to get some tickets for the Big Ten basketball tournament. On the way home, Miles was almost falling asleep. Whenever he does this, we have to work really hard to not let him fall asleep. If he does fall asleep, even for just five minutes, you can kiss his nap goodbye. Well, he didn't fall asleep but got really close. We put him down for a nap, and he talked to himself for about an hour and a half before finally conking out. We were going to go up in ten minutes and get him if he didn't fall asleep, and he finally did. So I went ahead and took a little nap too;)

After he got up, we made a run to the park. It's nice here today, but the wind made it a little chilly. I am looking forward to the warmer temps here this week!

And tonight at bath time Miles and TJ were just laughing.

Game night tonight with Keriann and Derrick. UNO is always a crowd favorite. We made homemade pizzas again. So yummy! We put Miles' new chalkboard to good use tonight to keep score.

Busy Week

It's been a pretty busy week around here.  I've been running in the mornings, which takes a lot out of me.  By the time Miles goes to bed, I am ready too.  It takes everything I have to stay up and watch a TV show.

This past week we did, however, watch two movies:  Water for Elephants and Sarah's Key.  Neither of which blew me away.  Water for Elephants was good, but not as good as some people made it out to be.  I finished reading Sarah's Key the first of the week.  The book was really good.  It was a sad because of what it's based on, but a really good story.  The movie, however, was not good.  They changed so much that it was irritating.  Even the simplest things that didn't make sense, they changed.

Right now I'm reading Women, Food and God.  If you watched every single episode of Oprah's last season (like I did!), you know how she ranted and raved over this book.  I must say, it's just okay.  I'm not having any "ah-ha" moments, as she would call them.  I should have it finished after my run in the morning, then it's on to the next one.  I am blowing through the books these days with the running and listening!

Thank goodness for my mom snapping some pics when she was here visiting!  She always gets some good ones.  I really need to get the zoom lens for our camera so I can get some good closeups.

Here's Miles showing off his new alligator shirt.
Showing you his tongue.
Blowing kisses

Singing the Incy Wincy Spider with Raffi.
Family picture taken before church.
And a final bit of news -- we put Miles down for his nap and bedtime with no bink!  He chatted before his nap for about 10 minutes before conking out.  Tonight he was asleep within a couple minutes.  I dare say this is the end of the binky!  Wahoo!  I hope I don't jinx us, and he will be up tonight crying for it...

French Dip Crescents

French Dip Crescents

I saw this yummy recipe on Pinterest and had to try it.  Click HERE to go to the real site.  My sister blogged about it too:)  She gave it the thumbs up, so I was excited to try it.  Let me just tell you, it is delicious!  I love french dips, but haven't ever made them at home.  These are so easy and good.  And Miles at some too, which is a big plus!  I used a package of roast beef in the prepackaged deli section.  I also got some prepackaged provolone cheese from the deli section.  I used the McCormick au jus packet to make it extra simple.  I would definitely recommend it, friends!!  Let me know if you try it and what you think!

Walks

We like to take Miles for walks around the block.  These days we don't even make it around the back of our house and Miles spots our neighbor's basketball hoop.  He will stand there forever pointing at it.  I'm sure he is wondering where his darn ball is.  He wants to shoot some hoops!  Today he was picking up some round nut things from a tree off the ground and was trying to shoot them in the hoop.  He may or may not be obsessed!

Oh, and they were in the driveway so long that they just ended up coming home instead of trying to go around the block.  Obsessed, I tell you!

Reading to himself

This is one of my favorite videos of Miles ever.  It's so sweet!  He is just reading along, then starts cracking up at it.  He didn't know I was taping either.  I'm getting stealthy like that.  Otherwise, as soon as he sees the phone, it's all over!

This Weekend

Mom and Scott came for a visit this weekend.  Mom wasn't feeling swell for the first day, so we just took it easy and hung out.  We did some shopping while they were here, playing outside, bowling, jumping, etc.  Miles loves having more people around to love on him and play with!

Miles finally can get off the ground when jumping.  Here he is doing it.
Of course he did it a bunch before I could get my phone on, then once I start taping he stops.  Oh, well.  Many more jumps to come from this guy, I'm sure.  Did you notice his shirt?  The mouth opens up.  Mom & Scott brought it for Miles from their vacation.  It's pretty cute!  We would ask where the alligator's mouth was and then say "Arrrgh," and he would lift up the flap:)

Checking out Grammy's phone with her.
Being a champ at the bowling alley.  He sat for most of the first game and ran around for the second one.
He even started doing a little heckling, getting a boo in here and there when we threw it in the gutter.

Something Blue Shower

Me and my fellow bridesmaids have been busy planning a fun Something Blue shower for Keriann.  It's been fun and very time consuming.  Luckily, I have an awesome brother who was able to help me out with some of the paper goods.  He's pretty amazing.  See?
He was able to make the invites, recipe cards, thank yous, and a page that we're using for decorating.  Since the theme is Something Blue, I am now on the hunt for a cute blue outfit.  Any ideas?

The Sticker is Stuck

I didn't know T.J. was taping or I wouldn't have been blabbing in the background.  This one is probably better muted:)

Happy Valentine's Day (Late)

We exchanged Valentine's cards and had Miles open some gifts in the morning.  We got Miles some new bath toys and some new markers.  T.J. got me a mani/pedi and some roses.
I got him the Pacers v. Heat game.
See Lebron?
Well, he's down there.  We were up pretty high but you could tell who was who playing.  He is pretty amazing, so I actually watched the game:)

Miles' New Pillow

Last night I whipped up this pillow for Miles. It was quick and easy. He loves to flop on the pillows on the floor, so I'm sure it will get lots of use.

The edges are exposed and cut. Not sure what to call it. Fringed?

Here is the back. I made it have the flap so I can take it off and wash it easily.

Here is the flap up closer.

Mr. NYY

Please excuse my blogging absence.  I have no excuse.  I've not been too busy with work, which means that I've not been on my computer too much.  The result?  No blogging.  AND spending lots of time with Mr. Miles.  He is changing so much these days!  Every day it's something new.  He has started shaking his head yes in answer to questions.  Or he will say "No, no, no,"  if he doesn't want something.
Last week Miles wasn't sleeping well at all.  I mean, getting up four times a night.  Come to think of it, maybe that's why I wasn't blogging much -- too tired!  He seems to be back on track now.  We are sure crossing our fingers.  The last two nights he has gone to bed at 8 p and slept until 8 a again.  Cue the hallelujah chorus!  Sleepless nights are not my strong suit!
I took him to the play center thing at the gym today for the first time.  I wasn't sure how he would do.  There were tons of kids running around, so I'm sure he was entertained.  They said he did fine, so that's awesome!
I started my books over for 2012.  So far I've read "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "P.S. I Love You."  TTW was weird, and I wouldn't recommend it.  It was long and just wasn't for me.  P.S. ILY was good.  It was a lot different from the movie, I think anyways.  It's been a long time since I've watched it.  I probably should watch it again, but I cried a lot during the movie.  The book didn't make me cry at all.  Right now I'm reading Sarah's Key.  It's really good.  I am about halfway through it and can't wait to get through it!

Hopefully my reading pace will pick up since I've been running on our new treadmill and listening to books while I do it.  We had some Christmas money and finally got the treadmill.  I've already logged 18 miles this week, and it's only my second week back.  Holla!  These legs were made for running;)  Do you have any good books to recommend?

Mom and Scott are coming out tonight to stay for the weekend.  We are looking forward to seeing them and hanging out!

Dessert Pizza

When we stayed with Roger and Abby this last time, they showed us their mad homemade pizza making skills.  Even we don't have all their fancy tools yet, we made their version of the homemade pizza for the Super Bowl.  Dough from Sam's Club, split into four, yummy toppings -- voila.  Delicious pizza.

We tried a new one that I found on Pinterest.  I mean, doesn't it just look delicious?  Well, it is!!!

I wanted to share this because I've had a few Pinterest fails, which is so disappointing.  So if you're unsure if this will be worth the time, it definitely is!

Play Kitchen

We got another giant toy to add to our already cluttered house.
It's already provided endless hours of play, so it's so worth it!
He really likes using the water dispenser thing in the fridge to fill his cup and then take a drink.

Chalkboard Wall

We made Miles a chalkboard wall!
As you can see, it was a big hit for everyone:)

Balloon Play

Miles loves balloons (what kid doesn't?)  T.J. blew up a balloon and let it go, and it scared him and made him laugh.  He was much happier once all the balloons were tied, and he could throw them up in the air!

Gray Hair?

I know what you must be thinking....Kaylan, you're too young to have a gray hair. Maybe you're not thinking that at all. No matter what you're thinking, they're here, and I am feeling old! These are the first two EVER found on my crown. And there are two, not just one. Need I remind you that I turn 30 this year? Maybe getting this gray-hair day out of the way will make my birthday less sad. It's just a number; right? But nothing says, "You're entering your 30s" like some coarse, gray hairs. *taking a deep breath and counting to ten* I'm feeling better. Thanks for letting me rant. Thank God for hair color! I guess I am entering the phase of NEEDING to color it instead of just WANTING to color it. The evidence:

We've Been...

...out enjoying all this great weather and sunshine!  It's not hard to believe that last year this time we had an ice storm.  It is hard to believe, however, that I was outside painting in the sun and was HOT today.  It sure has been nice out!

We've been playing extra hard outside, painting a few projects that I didn't think I'd get to until spring, and enjoying each other while work  has been a little slower than normal for me.

Here is Miles on a trip to Lowe's today.
I will update you on my two painting projects in a few days when everything is dried and cured.
