Out for a Jog

We haven't been taking Miles on as many walks around the block lately.  The last one I did, we only got half way and had been out for 45 minutes.  It's hard when you have to stop and look at every.little.thing along the way.  The other day T.J. took him out, though, and it was his fastest time around the block.  He practically ran the whole thing.  Maybe he will run track like his mama?  Or maybe he just had some serious energy to burn.  Either way, we love his new pace and hope he keeps with it.  At this rate, maybe we can add another block soon.

Home Sweet Home

After I got home on Sunday, I needed to spend some time with this guy!
He was glued to my side all night, and I loved it!  He had a good time with his Daddy, Uncle Derrick, and Auntie Keriann.  Derrick & Keriann came over and relieved T.J. so that he could go watch a movie on Saturday and take a little break.

When I got back, it was late afternoon, which means playing outside time.  We ran up to the park to shoot some hoops, swing, and go down the slide.

This past weekend I met my friends in Galena, Illinois.  We got in late Friday, so we checked into our room and then headed down to a bar on the Main Street in town.  It wasn't too busy, but it was the perfect place to have a couple drinks and chat.  Then we headed back to our room where we stayed up talking until about 2:00 a.m.  I can't tell you the last time I stayed up that late!  (We were all feeling it come Sunday too!)

On Saturday we had our pampering appointments scheduled in the morning, so we got up, ate, and went to those.  I got a massage and a pedicure.  You get half your massage, then someone comes in for the second half and does a pedicure at the same time as the second half of your massage.  I must say, I didn't love the double action.  I thought it would be a real treat, but it's hard to focus on what's happening where.  It was quicker than having two separate things, though, so maybe that's why they do it that way.  Anyway, we all got some pampering, a few of us headed for quick showers after getting greasy after massages, then had some lunch.  I can't remember the name of the place we ate at, but Abe Lincoln and some military men ate by us.  They were having reenactments throughout the day.  I didn't see any of those, but here they are leaving the place we were eating lunch.
After lunch we walked up and down the Main Street doing a little shopping.  We got ice cream along the way.  Jess was such a trouper walking so much while being pregnant.  Last year it was Sara, this year it was Jessica.  Who will it be next year?  We finished off our shopping at the Galena Winery.  We sampled some wine while Jessica took a load off at a table nearby.
When we got back to the room, Baby Bormann was doing the jive in Jessica's tummy, so we all had to get in on that action!
Jessica, Keith, and their families know the sex of the baby, but they aren't telling anyone else.  Mean, huh?  :)  So we had fun all weekend trying to trick her and get it out of her.  It's hard telling with this one.  I really am stumped.  On the one hand I say girl, but on the other I say boy.  I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Saturday night we headed out to Fried Green Tomatoes.  It was fancy and delicious.  We were going to pop into the bar a couple doors down for some drinks, but when we walked in and the music was blaring, we turned around and walked out.  We have far too much talking, laughing, and catching up to do to be sitting in a loud, smoky bar.  So we made a quit pit stop at Wal-Mart for some drinks, then headed back to the hotel.  We had some good laughs!  It's been a long time since I've laughed so hard.  I'm sure if anyone was staying the room next to us they were pretty tired of hearing our cackling!

Here we are before heading out to dinner.  I took it with my iPhone, which is hard work to get five people in a self-portrait!
This last pic is for T.J. who has recently become obsessed with waffle makers.  We had a cheap one that we had gotten somewhere for probably $15 or something.  He didn't want it anymore, so we sold it at a garage sale.  Well, guess what?  Now he wants one again.  I am holding out.  It's one kitchen appliance off the shelf, and I don't miss it at all!  I do like the fancier ones, though.  I could maybe be talked into one of those.  I just hate storing all that stuff!

It was such a fun weekend!  So many laughs, retelling old memories, and making new ones.  I love that we are going on these little girls' getaways and am looking forward to many more in the years to come!

Some Words Miles Says

Here are a few of the words Miles says.  T.J. is taping him so he can see himself.  He is a running fool!  He especially likes the sound of his footsteps!

Blowing Raspberries

When we pulled in the driveway from the zoo, Miles started blowing raspberries on his hand.  He hasn't done this before -- not sure where he got it.  He sure does crack us up!

The Year of the Zoo

We decided to get a zoo membership this year.  With Miles' reaction to seeing all the birds and squirrels in our own backyard, we knew he would love the zoo.  And, boy, did he ever!!  He loved pointing to all the animals and saying "Hi" to them and waving.
T.J. did get a good one of Miles smiling and then accidentally deleted it off his phone.  Doh!

We were hoping to let him feed the giraffes, but they were in the back part.  We did get to see them, though, because we took the train ride around.  Miles really likes them.  He also liked watching the monkeys and the dolphins.  But who doesn't; right?
Overstimulated is how I would describe this boy after just two hours at the zoo.  There was so much to see and take in, plus all the kids running around.  Let's just say he's been sleeping good the last couple days!

New Recipe -- Avocado and Grilled Corn Salad with Cilantro Vinaigrette

We tried a new recipe this week.

It's called Avocado and Grilled Corn Salad with Cilantro Vinaigrette.  You can find the recipe here.  You can find it on Pinterest too.
I borrowed their picture too because I am no food photographer!

I know what some of you who know me and my oh-so-picky ways don't believe me.  But you'd better believe it.  I made this, dear friends, and I loved it!

A couple of tweaks -- I cut the recipe in half.  I did leave out the red onion.  I'm not that good yet.  Although, I've been having some stomach acid issues and have been adjusting my diet because of it.  It says to avoid onions (no problem!) and garlic (Boo!!), so I don't even feel bad leaving it out.  Also, it calls for Sherry vinegar.  I didn't have that on hand and only needed one tablespoon, so I used regular white vinegar.

It gets two thumbs up from me.  So when you need a delicious, refreshing salad, give this one a try.

T.J. surprised me with flowers this week.  Isn't he sweet?

I'm going out of town this weekend for a little rest and relaxation with my friends from way back when we were little tots.  I'm pretty sure we all went to preschool together.  And if I'm mistaken, we definitely started Kindergarten together at Baxter Community School.  We've been friends forever!  I miss them so much being away, and these little getaways are so fun to just be us girls chatting, laughing, carrying on just like we used to at our sleepovers.  So excited!!

Last year we went to Chicago and had a blast!  This year we are headed to Galena, Illinois.  We already have massages and pedicures scheduled and dinner reservations at Fried Green Tomatoes.  I am so looking forward to that massage!

I am going to miss my boys terribly, though!  I'm sure T.J. will hold down the fort without any problems.  In a couple weeks, it's his turn for a weekend away, so don't feel too bad for him:)

Our tree is losing these like crazy right now.  They are providing lots of cheap entertainment, though, so we don't mind too much.  When I am up on the roof cleaning out the gutters, then I will mind a little more.  But for right now, we don't mind them.

Coloring with Daddy

Thank goodness for the inventor of Crayola washable markers!  This kid LOVES coloring, but it gets everywhere.  Lucky for us, it just as simple as rinsing him off.

Sliding Videos

Miles is getting creative with his sliding.  He loves taking out the balls sitting on his slide.

In this video he does his salute and holds his hands over his heart.  Sometimes you get one hand over the heart, sometimes you get two.  In this video, you get two.

Our neighbor, Jim, was out taking down his flag the other day while T.J. and Miles were on a walk around the block.  He let Miles hold some little flags he had in his garage, and they were waving them around.  Then he taught Miles how to salute and hold his hand over his heart.  It was just about the cutest thing ever.  I was going to snap a pic of them together but didn't get out there fast enough.
Here is another one where he slides and then gives a thumbs up.

Sliding Bo-biding

Miles is pretty into his slide these days.  It works the best if he has no shoes on.  He can get sat on his bottom better, and his feet don't stop him at the bottom.
Miles is Number 1!!!

Mohawk Time

Who doesn't love a soapy mohawk?
This time I switched my phone so that he could see himself when I was snapping a few pictures.  He LOVED it!  I guess I should take pics like that more often!

Sharing Treats

Sticking with the pet theme of the day, here is a cute little video of Miles feeding the doggies.

Our Pet Squirrel

We've got a pet squirrel.  See?
The dogs go bananas when they see him and chase him up the tree all the time.  I think it's good exercise for all!
He has taken up permanent residence in a branch of the tree.  You can see him climb down into a hole.  T.J. named him Freddy.

30 Day Shred

Keriann and I have been shredding!  We started on March 26th and are going strong.  One week later, on April 2 we moved up to level 2.  Then yesterday moved up to level 3.  There are three levels that get harder as you go.  I am hoping for some big results!  We've been going to spinning four days a week too.  Here's to working out and getting shredded:)

Easter Sunday

On Sunday the whole gang headed off to church.  We were so excited to go and worship.  This is the first Easter I have felt truly humbled, excited, and saved.  Because of the cross, because of the rising, I will have eternal life.  It was a wonderful service, and we are so blessed to have some family there with us.

Before going to church, we tried to get a family picture.
This kind of looks like Miles is smiling, but...'s really just the beginning of this...
Maybe he will stand and take a picture?
Nope!  We will just try when we get home from church.
As you can see, it didn't get any better.
So much for a nice family picture.  Oh, well.  It really captures a certain little someone asserting his independence all.the.time.

After church, Mom and the gang got on the road back to Iowa.  Keriann & Derrick joined us for a delicious Olive Garden dinner.  It was delicious!

When we got home, it was time for Miles to get his Easter "basket" from us and Keriann and Derrick.
We got Miles this little sandbox.  I just took a tote, filled it with blue play sand and some toys, and that's it.  It was a huge hit!

Keriann & Derrick got Miles this slide.  He jumped right on it to go down.

And got stuck.  Haha!  It's pretty steep, and his shoes made him just stop.
The age for the slide says 18 months, but since Miles is a bit of a giant, maybe it should have been a bigger one?  Later we took off his shoes, and he went down it just fine.

Then he tried to go up it, of course.
Then we busted out some sidewalk chalk this evening and got busy drawing.

I think he had more on him than on the sidewalk:)

And a little video for your viewing pleasure.
Happy Easter, my friends!

Easter Weekend (Friday & Saturday

Mom, Scott, Brandon & Amber decided to come out for a visit this weekend.  We kept very, very busy!  Friday we had a picnic at the park.  It was a little cool, but we had fun playing!

His favorite way to go down the slide.

Some people at the park had kites, so we decided we needed to fly a kite!  While Miles took his nap, we grabbed a few.  After he got up, we went to another park and flew our kites.  It's hard to see, but below is T.J. and the white spec is his kite.

On Saturday we dyed Easter eggs.
Coloring on his egg.

Family shot!

Miles opened his Easter baskets from Gma & Gpa McCord and Gma & Gpa Smith.
A new ball!  We can't have too many around here!

This little plastic Elmo was a big hit.  He's giving him some kisses.

Flashcards!  Any guess on what this is?
It's a cow.  MOOOO!

Rocking the rabbit ears.

We had an Easter egg hunt.  Miles had fun finding the eggs.

He sometimes had trouble letting them go and putting them in the basket.

Enjoying some goodies that were hidden in the egg.

We did lots of grilling this weekend.  We had perfect weather for it!
T.J. will probably be mad at me for posting this, but it's pretty funny so I had to.
