Miles loves reading books right now. He especially loves Hop on Pop and Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? Those are his requests when it's bed time. Mr. Brown taught him how to say, "Cock-a-doodle-doo," which is just about the cutest thing ever!
Another thing Miles started doing is saying "Two!" when he sees two water bottles or two of his water cups. At first I thought it was a fluke. He said, "Two waters," one day. I chalked it up to him just saying it by chance. Since then he has pointed out more pairs of things and saying "Two _______!" You can fill in the blank:)
Miles recently learned the meaning of the word "big." It's funny how things just click for kids when they're learning.
So he has a bear he sleeps with. We call him Yankee Bear. Well, Yankee Bear sometimes gets some pee on him if Miles has a huge diaper, so he has to have a bath. So then Miles sleeps with a giant stuffed bear that one of our neighbors got him. He started calling it "Big Bear." And thus begins the "big" phenomenon at our house.
He talks about taking a BIG bite of cottage cheese.
He talks about BIG band-aids. (This doesn't go over so well. He's terrified of them. When we want him to wear them, he has to wear pants so it's out of sight, out of mind.)
Miles talks about how BIG he is compared to his stuffed monkey, Marco.
It's funny that it started with Big Bear, then clicks and now he understanding what big means. We just love seeing develop and grow. Will we ever cease to be amazed? I doubt it!
And because I can't post on here without a picture, here's Miles finally keeping on his sunglasses for more than a millisecond.
I first found this recipe on Pinterest. We decided to give it a whirl, and were pleasantly surprised. The recipe that I pinned was making your own cornbread mix, which I definitely didn't do. That's why I loved it so much. One box of Jiffy cornbread mix (milk & egg for the mix), three hot dogs, and a mini muffin tin. That's it. You mix the muffin mix like normal. Cut hot dogs into 1 inch pieces. Then put mix into greased muffin tin, filling about 3/4 of the way full. Next add your hot dogs. They baked at 400 for 10 minutes. Super easy, quick, and good. It made 24 mini muffins perfectly.
Miles saw them and said, "Cake!" He ate the cornbread right up. He was a little hesitant about the hot dogs. He doesn't do meat (if we can even call hot dogs that!), but he took a few bites, so maybe it's a step in the meat-eating direction. I think he just ate them because there was "cake" on them that he couldn't get off. Let me know if you try them. Or if you have any good recipes you've tried lately, let me know!!
On Saturday we headed out to the Indy Air Show. We live close to the airport, so Miles loves pointing out all the airplanes that fly over all the time. It was one of his first words. Awpaw is what it sounded like until just recently. Now it's more like Aye-plane. No R sound yet:)
Mom got Miles some new zoo animals to play with. He talks all the time about dolphins and monkeys. They are by far his favorites. So mom got him an animal thing from Hobby Lobby that had all the zoo animals in it. Then I got him a big dolphine that was by itself. He loves them!!
Here we are at the air show before we got hot, sweaty, and dirty. Yes, dirty. The planes park behind where you're sitting, so when they start up, they kick up a ton of dirt and dust on you. It felt good, of course, but we were all hot messes afterwards!
The soon-to-be Hansons:) Their wedding is about a month away!
Mom & Scott with Miles.
There was a sun beam all day. It was a rainbow around the sun.
Miles & Grandpa Scott
It was really fun. Miles sat really well and watched the planes. It was harder to keep him entertained and in our area when there was downtime. It was also pretty hot since it was the peak heat of the day and right during his nap. He was a trouper, though, and was so good. He did manage about a 20 minute nap, then we went to Keriann's pool to cool off.
He loves jumping in the pool right now. Well, actually, jumping period. Whether it's jumping up and down, in his crib, in our bed, on the couch, or in the pool. He loves to jump. The only problem with jumping in the pool is that he doesn't always jump out. Sometimes he does really good and jumps out. Other times he jumps up and if you don't catch him, he would hit his butt or back on the edge of the pool. We are working on going all the way to the edge then jumping. Some girls were running and jumping in, so he thought he needed to do that. Add another level of scary to the mix! We tried to make him stop running and jumping, and it ended in us calling it a day and going home for dinner. He's still catching up on his sleep from this weekend. This morning he slept until almost 9:00. If only that would happen on a day that I was able to sleep in!!!
Have I mentioned I have the best husband in the whole world?
He has been sneaking around the last couple weeks making birthday plans without me knowing about it. He planned to have Keriann & Derrick watch Miles Thursday night so I could sleep in on Friday morning. On Friday morning he got up early to go to work, got this all decorated, stayed home from work, made me breakfast in bed, and had Keriann, Derrick, Miles, Mom & Scott here to surprise me in the morning.
He ordered this yummy cake especially for me. It was SO GOOD!
Here I'm just getting started opening stuff.
T.J. got me a serger!! I'm so excited to play with it! I've been so busy and haven't had time yet, but I will let you know when I finally do!
Miles was loving the present opening!
Mom made me a fancy bird bath.
Keriann did 30 notes or memories from my friends. It was so nice and sweet. Thanks, Keriann, for doing that!! And thanks to everyone who participated. It made me laugh and cry at the same time. So fun!!
Family picture time.
Miles snagged some frosting. Smart kid!
Oh, and look what mom brought me. Her and Scott are moving and she doesn't want to display my senior picture anymore. What's wrong with her? So now I am stuck with it. What in the world am I going to do with it?!?
Miles reading some books after all the excitement.
I had such a fun day with my family!! Thanks to Mom, Scott, Keriann & Derrick for helping to make it special!
Another big reason to make it such a special birthday?
I PASSED THE RPR!!!
My dear friends, you know how long and how hard I've worked to pass this sucker. I was beyond ecstatic when I saw my passing score online Thursday morning, the day before my birthday. I saw it, hollered for T.J. to come see, then we hugged, I cried, then I kind of felt sick for a little while afterwards. I have wanted this so bad, but it's been just a little bit out of reach, which has been so frustrating. Did I tell you about the time I missed it by one? I may have fallen into a slight RPR depression after that slap in thy face! You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be staying up to date on my CEUs and dues every year!!
This pool has been a HUGE hit at our house! Next year we need a much, much bigger pool. We can't step foot in the backyard without him stripping down naked and jumping in. He's like his daddy and loves the water!
Grammy Barb is one funny bunny! She had Miles cracking up the other day doing this, but he was kind of over it by the time we taped it. She does it at the beginning, and then he moves his mouth afterwards. It's just kind of cute and funny. I sure do love Skype! It makes being so far from family not seem quite so far.
This morning I got Miles up and ready for church. T.J. was on setup team this morning, so he left bright and early.
He got home and changed real quick, we opened presents and cards, then got ready to go.
Miles helped T.J. get his shoes on. It is Father's Day after all:)
A family picture before we left.
A little bribery with some puppy chow really worked wonders!
Keriann snapped some pictures of us on stage.
She was on behind the sound guys, so their heads caught most of the flash. I tried to crop the pictures to be able to see us behind them.
This is Paul introducing us. He and MaryAnn are our supporting couple.
After church we had lunch at Olive Garden. We came home and played for about an hour before Miles had to nap. Then I took a nap too. I was beat! Then we ran to Old Navy this afternoon for a little exchange for T.J. We ended up wandering around the mall, riding the escalators at Dick's, playing with the train table at Barnes & Noble. Then we headed home. We had a late dinner of leftovers, then it was bath time.
Thank you, T.J., for all that you do for our family. You are an outstanding father and husband. I couldn't have asked for anyone better. Miles and I are so blessed to call you ours!
We had such a great day vowing to raise our son to know Christ, celebrating and showing our appreciation for T.J., and being together. What an AWESOME day!!
Hi, I'm Kaylan, a mom, freelance court reporter, and avid crafter. I'm married to my best friend and the best stay-at-home dad ever. We live in the suburbs outside of Indianapolis. Almost all of our family is back in Iowa except for my sister Keriann and her fiance Derrick. I talk about them a lot on here too; so if you see their names, you will know who they are.
I dabble a little in just about everything and love to blog about all of it. So grab your coffee and your laptop, kick back, and stay a while. Enjoy the show!
